Here’s to a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

…It’s time for a New Year’s resolution and a vow to get back in the gym, put on the running shoes, get back on the saddle, or whatever else you do to keep fit and strong.
It’s a tough transition to go from the relaxation of the holidays and the heaviness of all the food and drink, to a fighting fit energized specimen.
The most dedicated amongst you won’t have skipped a beat; you’ll have been in the gym on Christmas morning busting out supersets. My gym is a 24/7/365 operation. I do not go on Christmas day!
So, for those of you who need a little direction, come January 1st, here’s a few articles and tips to get going on your quest to get stronger, fitter and healthier in the coming year.
Boost Your Testosterone
Nothing makes your T levels bomb like a hedonistic Christmas and New Year. Start the next 365 by boosting your testosterone levels to optimal levels.
Testosterone is so important that many people take it for granted, and don’t do anything about the natural decline that occurs in our late twenties and early thirties.
Just because our caveman endocrine system hasn’t caught up to modern medicine and the fact that we have longer lifespans now, doesn’t mean we should roll over and let nature take its course.
There are many many benefits to keeping optimal levels of testosterone way beyond our thirties, and they don’t just include the obvious sex factor.
There’s muscle growth, bone strength, mineral density, healthy cholesterol and heart function, good moods, clear focus, heightened vitality and, yeah, sex drive, to look forward to with brimming natural T levels.

Enhance Your Mind
If Testosterone can help you shape up in the New Year, then it can also help you sharpen your mind. But why stop there?
The field of nootropics has exploded recently and we are really excited to see where it is going. In fact, it might be the area we are most excited about.
That’s because the brain is at the centre of everything you think and do, consciously and sub-consciously.
When your laptop is done, you can just go out and buy another one. With your brain, however, you can’t just swap it out when it gets tired, stressed, overused and even damaged. You can only upgrade the same one, over and over again.
Times like Christmas and New Year have an effect on the brain, like any other party. What you eat and drink always affects it, and if you aren’t careful it can be negative, and it can be lasting.
Similarly, too much stress, fatigue, overuse and any other abuse can blunt the sharpness of your mind and leave you quite a lot less driven, happy and even intelligent than you could be.
Enter the Nootropic Supplement. The ingredients in these little pills are all found in nature or synthesized from sources our bodies naturally create.
Nerve growth stimulators, stress reducers, alpha-wave releasers, cerebral vasodilators, neurotransmitter boosters, and so on, are some of the most proven ingredients we have in the supplement industry.
The best thing about nootropics is that you feel the effects from the first day you take them as there are short term mood enhancers and energizers in most blends.
The long term effects are excellent too, and can actually protect your brain from damage and help it to regenerate quicker.
Perhaps of most interest to a reader looking to get more out of their weight lifting is that nootropics improve the mind-muscle relationship, even assisting more powerful muscle contractions during each repetition!

Turning Failure into Progress
Do you lift weights in the gym? Did you reach a plateau last year?
Try something new in the New Year. Introduce something new into your workout that might help you break into another level of muscle growth or strength.
It doesn’t always require extra volume or effort either; sometimes it just takes a little tweaking of what you are already doing.
The addition of isometric holds to the end of your failure sets for example – as described in the article linked to below – can add an extra element to your last sets of each muscle group that takes seconds to achieve but can add lasting improvement.
A good philosophy to adopt in the New Year is: Don’t do anything without there being a reason for it.
Once you can really understand that concept, you will only make progress. A good way to highlight this is an example of what not to do: If you’re a person who goes to the gym 4 days a week but you don’t seem to be getting anywhere with your strength anymore then you might consider going for 5 days to add the extra training volume.
The additional stress and fatigue will more than likely have a negative impact unless you have your diet and sleep routine absolutely nailed down.
The more useful approach would be to take a look at what you already do and see if you can change it for the better.
Often, guys do 90 minute workouts with the mindset that the more they can do the better. In truth, 45 minutes is probably long enough, and even then a full 45 of lifting weights can be too much.
Do what works for you, and don’t do anything useless!
