Your body produces natural anabolic hormones, and Human Growth Hormone, Testosterone and Insulin are the most important. The supply you synthesize yourself is known as ‘endogenous’, whereas the stuff synthesized in labs and injected by bodybuilders and those in medical need is ‘exogenous’.
Growth Hormone is not surprisingly involved in the growth of body tissue. For people reading this article, muscle growth is probably the highest on the list of priorities. And, while HGH is vital for muscle and bone growth, it has many other functions in the human body, such as organ health, cognitive function, skin plumpness and health, and overall feelings of vitality, energy and well-being.
The period of your youth when you felt immortal, had boundless reserves of energy and could heal quicker than Wolverine was when you had your peak supply of endogenous HGH. After that, levels fall sharply and by 25 you are a shadow of your former self…that is, unless you do something about it.
Declining HGH – Doing Something About It
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that having high levels of Growth Hormone is a coveted thing for people wanting to grow more muscle. There are several ways to raise those levels, and depending on which way you choose, it can be very expensive and a bit risky, or it can barely cost you anything and come with zero risk.
The Expensive and a Bit Risky Method
You know what’s coming here: HGH injections. Arguments exist in favour of it, and against it, but this article isn’t going to provide the definitive argument, it’s just going to shed some light on it.
If you have naturally low levels of HGH because of a disorder or a condition you have no control over then there is a definite reason to go to a medical professional and discuss the options of hormone therapy and everything that comes with it.
Chances are, if you are one of those people, you are already aware and doing something about it.
The more likely scenario is that you are someone looking to boost your levels of growth hormone because either your lifestyle has left you with lower than average levels, or you simply want to buck the trend of age and give yourself a physical and mental edge.
To those people, there’s other things to do before expensive hormone therapy.
The Lifestyle Fix
Improving diet, sleep and activity level is all that needs to happen for most people. Adding a supplement might just boost your HGH even more (see below section on supplements).
So before doing anything drastic, make sure you are doing everything you can to improve your endogenous release of growth hormone. And HGH is not exclusive in this either. A good transformation will have all of your hormone levels – testosterone, insulin etc. – lining up like ducks in a row.
Diet and nutrition are one of the core areas of course. Keeping your sugar intake to a minimum and your fats of the healthy variety will do a lot for maintaining optimal levels of beneficial hormones.
Getting enough rest is critical as well. Training twice a day won’t give yourself more muscle growth, it will stifle it. So will running around stressed out of your mind at work or with the kids. Sleeping a good 8 hours a night and keeping your stress levels in check will boost your growth hormone levels significantly.
Resistance weight training has been shown to stimulate the endogenous production of HGH as well. The very mechanical action of lifting something heavy does this. Don’t skip the cardio though, as reduced fat levels and a healthy heart will do wonders for optimal growth as well. As previously mentioned however, do NOT overtrain…it’s a waste of time and energy and actually puts you back a few steps.
The Supplement Boost
There’s some excellent supplements being developed that can boost your HGH levels. There’s some laughable ones as well, but we will only recommend the ones we think will do something positive for you.
Ingredients in these supplements tend to stimulate the pituitary gland at the base of your brain to product more HGH. That way, there’s no need to throw your hormone levels out of balance by getting injected with the stuff.
When your brain releases HGH at the encouragement of a good supplement, it does so in a controlled and safe manner.
